Bruce Springsteen Beats Out Adele on Billboard 200 Chart
It took the Boss to dethrone Adele from the top of the Billboard 200 album chart. Bruce Springsteen‘s ‘Wrecking Ball’ officially debuts at No. 1 this week with approximately 196,000 copies sold, just 1,000 more than Adele’s ’21.’
By the slimmest of margins, Adele misses out on a 24th week at No. 1. That would have tied it with Prince‘s ‘Purple Rain’ and the ‘Saturday Night Fever’ soundtrack for the sixth-longest reign at No. 1 in chart history. Adele could still return to the top next week, assuming her sales continue to hold steady. With the release of the album’s fourth single, ‘Rumour Has It,’ ’21′ should be a strong seller for weeks to come.
There’s no shame in getting edged out by Springsteen. ‘Wrecking Ball’ is the rocker’s 10th chart-topper on the Billboard 200, tying Elvis Presley for third place all-time, behind only the Beatles with 19 and Jay-Z with 12.
Elsewhere on the chart, Coldplay‘s ‘Mylo Xyloto’ and Lil Wayne‘s ‘Tha Carter IV’ shoot back in the Top 10 thanks to discounted online sales. And listeners still can’t get enough of Whitney Houston. The late singer holds strong at No. 6 with ‘The Greatest Hits.’
