Busy Weekend For Thanksgiving Travel

It looks like it's going to be a busy Thanksgiving holiday travel weekend.

AAA is predicting nearly 49 million people will travel more than 50 miles from home today through Sunday, and more than 89 percent of those travelers will be driving.

That's a two percent jump over last year and is the highest number of expected Thanksgiving travelers since 2007.

Ed Welsh of AAA Central New York says even though gas prices are higher this Thanksgiving than last year, the cumulative effect of lower gas prices is helping fuel the increase.

Welsh says the auto club estimates drivers have saved over $28 billion dollars year to date over the same time period last year.

Governor Como has suspended temporary lane closures at road and bridge construction projects on New York highways through Monday in hopes of easing traffic.
