It was today back in 1982 that the US was battling a vicious cold snap.  This was no common Alberta Clipper but an intense weather system that brought weather conditions that are more common to Siberia or Antarctica.  Most of the midwest and eastern United States set all time low temperatures on January 17, 1982.  A sampling of low temperatures that day:

  • -45 in International Falls, MN
  • -35 in St. Cloud, MN
  • -27 in Chicago
  • -18 in Pittsburgh
  • -17 in Cleveland
  • -14 in Buffalo
  • -9 in Syracuse
