Emilia Clarke revealed she turned down the lead role in Fifty Shades of Grey because of all the nudity she had already done on Game of Thrones.

In a new interview for The Hollywood Reporter, the actress opened up about why she passed on the opportunity to play Anastasia Steele in the BDSM film, a role that later went to Dakota Johnson. She explained that she didn't want to take on another role that required a lot of nudity in fear that she'd be "pigeonholed for life."

As most GoT fans know, Clarke’s character Daenerys was seen naked several times in the earlier seasons of the show, specifically the scene in which she emerges naked from the flames in the Season 1 finale.

“The last time that I was naked on camera on [Game of Thrones] was a long time ago, and yet it is the only question that I ever get asked because I am a woman,” she said. “And it’s annoying as hell and I’m sick and tired of it because I did it for the character—I didn’t do it so some guy could check out my tits, for God’s sake.”

Clarke went onto praise Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson's vision for the film, but her decision to turn down the role ultimately came down to the fact that appearing nude as Dany had already changed her career.

“I did a minimal amount and I’m pigeonholed for life, so me saying yes to that, where the entire thing is about sensuality and sex and being naked and all of that stuff," Clarke said.

She added, "I was just like, ‘No way am I going to voluntarily walk into that situation and then never be able to look someone in the eye and be like, ‘No, you can’t keep asking me this question."
