First Gold Medal In Rio Won By Woman Born In Rome, N.Y.
Virginia "Ginny" Thrasher, who was born in Rome, New York, has won the first gold medal of the 2016 Summer Olympics Virginia won the gold for the Women's 10m Air Rifle competition.
Thrasher is 19 years old and became the first freshman to win both individual NCAA rifle titles. She followed that by winning the U.S. Olympic Trials, earning her a trip to Rio.
Thrasher was born in Rome, N.Y., but now lives in Springfield, Virginia.
