The Downtown Utica organization shared on Facebook five fascinating facts about the Fort Schuyler Club.

The private club, which is located at Genesee and Court Street across from the former New Century Club, was built in 1830 as a private residence.

It was also the first building in Utica to have electricity.

It's also much more exclusive than I realized. Located in a city of some 62,000 and a metropolitan area of nearly 300,000 there are just 200 members of the Fort Schuyler club.

The club was named after the historic Fort Schuyler, which was built in 1758 on the Mohawk River near what is today Downtown Utica.

Members enjoy meals of what might be the best menu in Utica you've never eaten from.

The Fort Schuyler is one of just 11 traditional Gentlemen's Clubs located outside of Manhattan in New York State with some others being the Century Club in Syracuse, the Fort Orange Club in Albany and the Genesee Valley Club in Rochester.
