The killer played by Kevin Spacey in the 1995 movie Se7en used the Bible's Seven Deadly Sins as a form of artistic expression.

More recently, the folks at financial services website WalletHub used the sins as the basis for their study on the Most Sinful Cities in America. WalletHub ranked "more than 180 U.S. cities across 37 key indicators of evil deeds, considering everything from violent crimes to excessive drinking to adult entertainment establishments per capita." New York City finished pretty high overall, but showed a wide disparity in its rankings within each sinful category.

The Big Apple came in as the #3 most sinful city overall, behind Las Vegas and Los Angeles. However, New York was very sinful in certain areas and not so much in others.

For instance, the study found New York was #3 in the Lust department, indicated by such factors as the number of Adult and X-Rated Entertainment venues and also the activity rates of Tinder users seeking instant gratification.

On the flip side, New York was near the bottom of the study in the categories of Jealousy (measured by identity theft, robberies, etc.) and Excesses/Vices, which charted such factors as DUIs, drug overdoses, smoking, and debt-to-income ratio.
