The US Coast Guard says they began taking calls nearly a week ago reporting whale sightings in the Hudson River from the Statue of Liberty to miles north of the George Washington Bridge.   It's been determined that the lone whale is a humpback that scientists may be chasing after bunker fish.

CBSNEWS.com reports that whale sightings in the Hudson River have increased in recent years.  A humpback was spotted in the Hudson nearly 20 mile north of New York City.  One expert said the number of whales that have ventured into the Hudson River has soared since 2011.
