Loud Boom Shakes Northeast Ohio and New York

Did you hear that massive boom to kick off your St. Patrick’s Day in Central New York?

It wasn’t thunder, but it did come from the sky.

Tens of thousands of people in several states, including New York, reported feeling and hearing the loud noise on Tuesday morning, just before 9 AM. What was it?

Meteor Confirmed as the Culprit

According to the National Weather Service, the boom was caused by a meteor breaking the sound barrier.

GLM satellite imagery confirmed the event. One of the weather service employees, Jared Rackley, caught the meteor streaking through the sky.

Reports Flood In

The American Meteor Society received multiple reports of the boom from residents spanning several states.

People described the explosion as loud and rattling, causing minor shaking inside homes.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported at this time.
