Jennifer Lawrence Says She’s Quitting Acting for a Year To Do This
Here's hoping you've gotten your fill of Jennifer Lawrence in 2018 — the Red Sparrow actress says she's taking a pretty significant break from acting to pursue a bit of a different dream: saving the state of American democracy. No pressure, J-Law!
Lawrence, whose forthcoming thriller film opens on March 2, told Entertainment Weekly that she's aiming to help fight against corruption within American politics. Still, her publicist clarified that she may actually return to entertainment sooner, if and when any of a number of forthcoming projects gets the green light.
“I’m going to take the next year off,” Lawrence said. “I’m going to be working with this organization I’m a part of: Represent.Us. It’s just trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level.”
“It doesn’t have anything to do with partisan [politics],” she added. “It’s just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state-by-state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy. And then I don’t know what I’m doing next.”
Represent.Us aims to stop political bribery, end secret money and fix a broken election system, according to the organization's website.
Lawrence previously spoke to the urgency of broken elections during a November 2017 interview with Elle, during which she also outlined an additional dream job during her hiatus.
“I want to get a farm,” she said. “I want to be, like, milking goats.”
