While everyone from Robert Downey, Jr. to Joss Whedon loudly wonders why Scarlett Johansson has not yet been given a solo 'Black Widow' movie, there's Hawkeye, the one character for whom no one is clamoring for a spinoff. And that includes star Jeremy Renner himself.

Renner may have been unhappy with his time and character arc in the original 'Avengers,' he's not exactly fighting for his own movie. He recently told MTV:

I’m happy to be the ensemble. I’m not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means. I think he’s a utility guy that can bounce around into other people’s universes a little bit, especially like 'Cap 3.'

We'll get to that intriguing 'Captain America 3' tidbit in a moment, but it's actually refreshing to hear Renner's honest take on his character and his place in the Marvel universe. Let's be honest: Hawkeye doesn't need his own movie and only in the most desperate realms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would he ever get one. Hawkeye is the ultimate utility player. He's like an early-90s Detlef Schrempf, if we must use a sports reference (who, coincidentally, bears a striking resemblance to Renner).

Now, about that 'Captain America 3' mention. We've heard rumors that Hawkeye, should he survive 'Avengers 2,' would basically be playing the Black Widow role from 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' in the upcoming Cap sequel. This was mostly just conjecture and "yeah, that could happen," but Renner is talking about it like it's a fact. The Russos (who directed 'Winter Soldier' and are returning for 'Captain America 3') have finished the script, so Renner would certainly be in a position to know such things. So, for all the Hawkeye fans out there, sorry that you won't be getting your spinoff movie you so anxiously await, but it looks like we haven't seen the end of Clint Barton yet.
