These days, Katy Perry might be head over heels in love with Orlando Bloom, but only a few years ago, she was struggling to come to terms with a lost love. But was Josh Groban, indeed, the one that got away?

On Thursday night's Watch What Happens LiveGroban answered claims that he inspired Perry's heartbreaking 2011 track "The One That Got Away" (Perry said during her Witness livestream that the track was, indeed about Groban). And while Groban admitted that the two dated, he denied ghosting Perry, and said he'd find it strange if he were, indeed the inspiration, as he doesn't have a Mustang or any tattoos, as the subject of Perry's song suggests.

"We were both very private and we realized we were better as friends," Groban said. "We're very very good friends to this day, she's the best. But I was not expecting [her to say that]. That was a double-take and a spit. It's very sweet of her to say that, [but] I listened to the lyrics of the song and I'm like, 'I never owned a Mustang. I don't have a tattoo. Are you sure that's about me?' I'm very flattered by it but I was very surprised by it too."

The sixth and final single off of Perry's massively successful Teenage Dream, "The One That Got Away" tells the story of a lost love, and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It includes the lyrics "In another life, I would be your girl / We keep all our promises, be us against the world / In another life, I would make you stay / So I don't have to say you were the one that got away / The one that got away."
