It’s Official: Lindsay Lohan to Play Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime Movie
It’s official.
Self-proclaimed Liz Taylor devotee and tabloid mainstay, Lindsay Lohan has signed on to play her idol in Lifetime’s upcoming biopic, ‘Liz & Dick.’ After lengthy negotiations, Lohan, whose spent more time in jail and in court than on a set in the past few years, will star in the made-for-TV-movie depicting Elizabeth Taylor’s life-long romance with actor and two-time ex-husband, Richard Burton.
‘Liz & Dick’ which was penned by ‘Temple Grandin’s’ Christopher Monger, starts shooting in early June. No word yet on who will play the Dick to Lohan’s Liz but the real question is whether or not the troubled actress can keep it together long enough to get through shooting. However, ‘Liz & Dick’ executive producer, Larry Thompson, who says he wanted Lohan in the role from the start, is confident she’ll shine.
“We truly feel that Lindsay Lohan is perfect for Elizabeth Taylor for our movie….I think Lindsay—who is very gifted—deserved another chance,” Thompson told E! News.
In a press release from Lifetime, Lohan herself gushes about the late Taylor and the opportunity to play her on-screen.
“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”
And Lifetime’s Executive Vice President of Programming, Rob Sharenow echoed Lohan’s excitement about the project. ”We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor. She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon,” said the exec for the women’s television network.
Lohan’s latest “second chance” came with a highly-rated but also highly-criticized appearance on ‘SNL.’ She’s also set to guest star in an upcoming episode of ‘Glee.’ Whether or not she scores her first Emmy with ‘Liz & Dick,’ at least it’s another entry on her acting resume and not her rap sheet.
