Start at one point in New York and drive to another point without leaving the Empire State. How long of a drive is possible?

The question came up recently on the /r/NewYork subreddit of reddit. And taking the northeast-to-southwest and northwest-to-southeast extremes, these are the longest possible drives while staying within New York State.

Northeast to Southwest

Rouses Point to Clymer

Rouses Point is located in extreme northeast New York at the corner of the state abutting Canada to the north and Lake Champlain and Vermont to the east.
Clymer, on the other hand in Chautauqua County is bordered on two sides by Pennsylvania.

Google Maps routes a trip between the two points at 456 miles and 7 hours and 50 minutes of driving.

Southeast to Northwest

Montauk to Youngstown

This trip, originating way out at the very tip of Long Island at Montauk to Youngstown in Niagara County on the shores of Lake Ontario and across the mouth of the Niagara River from Canada is the longest point-to-point drive possible in the state.

Google Maps routes a trip from the Montauk Point Lighthouse to Old Fort Niagara at 547 miles and will take you 9 hours and 2 minutes (depending on traffic in New York!).
