Once again, our state is at the top of another study, but this time it's not good. We beat out all other states when it comes to losing a key component of our state.

So what is New York losing that's so important?

Well, according to NY Daily News, it's people. New York is number one when it comes to people leaving the state. More people are continuing to leave the Empire State, than those who choose to move in. NY Daily News says more than one million people have moved out of New York since 2010.

Why are people leaving New York?

Could it be the taxes we all like complaining about? Maybe it's the difficulty finding a job or better career prospects? It could be all the debt New York State is in (one of the highest in the country).

No matter what the reason is (or combination of reasons), the fact is our state is losing people at an alarming rate. According to NY Daily News,

If the trend continues, New York is in jeopardy of losing at least one more congressional seat. The state once boasted 45 congressional members and currently has 27.

So tourism isn't our problem, New York State has enough things to see and do to continue having visitors, but we need something that will get more people to make the choice to move here, and for other residents to stay.

What do you think we need to do to get residents to stay? Lower taxes? Fix the roads? More employment options? A combination of all three... and more? We would love to hear your thoughts on this - You can leave us a comment or message on our Lite 98.7 Facebook Page.
