After this spring's heavy rain and storms, Oneida Lake had been closed to boat traffic, as the lake was at dangerously high levels.  Today, Oneida County Sheriff, Rob Maciol, has lifted the ban on boating on the lake.

After consulting with Village of Sylvan Beach officials a short time ago along with seeing a significant drop in the high water level over that past 18 hours, the decision was made to allow boating traffic to resume on the Oneida County portion of the lake. Sheriff Maciol advises all boaters to still use caution on the water due to the floating debris, some of which may be under water.
