Remembering the Attica Prison Riots

Today (September 9) marks the anniversary of the start of the four day Attica prison riots at the Attica Correctional Facility in Western New York.

The riot caused tremendous controversy after New York's Governor Rockefeller ordered the State Police to take the prison by force.

Jazz poet and musician Gil-Scott Heron used the Attica riots as part of this inspiration for his work 'We Beg Your Pardon.'
