Severe Thunderstorms Could Bring Hail and Isolated Tornadoes to C

The National Weather Service says Central New York could see severe thunderstorms, accompanied by a chance of hail and isolated tornadoes.

We're not in Kansas, anymore. Central New York has already experienced unusually wet weather this spring, and now more rain is on the way.

The National Weather Service says Central New York is under the greatest risk from heavy winds that could develop as part of thunderstorms that will develop later today, primarily after 1pm. The NWS also identified a risk for isolated tornadoes and hail.

The current forecast calls for "scattered showers and isolated thunder may be found at times this morning as a warm and unstable air mass makes its way into the area. Thunderstorms will be more likely this afternoon to early evening, some possibly severe with strong winds and hail."

Thursday - Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Some storms could be severe, with hail and damaging winds. High near 74. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday Night - Showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. West wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday - A chance of showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. West wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Saturday - A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday Night - Showers and thunderstorms likely between 8pm and 2am, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 61. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday - A chance of showers before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
