The world may have been abuzz with 'Doctor Who' and his timey-wimey 50th anniversary special -- "The Day of the Doctor" -- this past weekend, but that hasn't prevented 'Sherlock' season 3 from stealing a bit of the spotlight. History's greatest detective is alive and well, as discovered by John Watson and the Twitter-sphere at large in the latest trailer for 'Sherlock' season 3!

In addition to the return of Watson ('The Hobbit' star Martin Freeman)'s bitchin' mustache, the latest trailer for 'Sherlock' season 3 finally offers us a taste of the big reunion between the pair, as Watson stares into the face of a man he thought long dead. Meanwhile, a support group struggling to cope with the loss learns of Sherlock's survival, and sets the Twitter-verse ablaze with news of the dramatic return!

Meanwhile, in addition to the footage screened and details gleaned at Comic-Con, we most recently learned of season 3 that Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen (brother to ‘Hannibal”s Mads Mikkelsen) has joined in the villainous role of “Charles Augustus Magnussen,” a character with no direct literary counterpart, but one that likely corresponds to the 1904 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story, “The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton.”

Follow-up episode “The Sign of Three” will feature an oft-discussed wedding, while “The Last Vow” will air on February 2. The BBC has yet to commission an official ‘Sherlock’ season 4, though reportedly Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have both signed on for the follow-up, in spite of their increasingly busy schedules.

Check out the latest 'Sherlock' season 3 trailer above, and tell us in the comments what lingering questions you want to see answered when the series hits PBS on January 19, 2014!
