Free Learn to Fish Event Coming to Utica Harbor Point This August

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fish but didn't know where to start? Here's your chance.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Oneida County 4-H Youth Development are teaming up to host a free Learn to Fish event at Utica Harbor Point. Whether you've never picked up a fishing rod or just want to spend a fun morning by the water, this event is designed for all experience levels.

The event takes place:

Saturday, August 15, 2026
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Utica Harbor Point
101 North Genesee Street, Utica

Participants are welcome to stop by anytime during the two-hour event and stay for as little or as long as they'd like.

No License or Experience Required

One of the best parts? You don't need a fishing license to participate.

Fishing rods will be available to borrow if you don't have your own, and bait will be provided. If you already have a favorite rod, you're welcome to bring it along.

All fishing activities will take place from land, making it an easy and accessible way for beginners to learn. Organizers also say adaptive fishing equipment will be available so more people can enjoy the experience.
