When it comes to cities outside of New York City, Utica leads the state when it comes to the percentage of immigrants who live here.   Nearly one in five residents of the city were born outside of the United States .

More than 11,000 people who live in the city are immigrants, according to a new report from the state comptroller's office, and published by The Post Standard.  That's 18.2 percent of the population of the city.  Schenectady is second on the list with 13.3 percent, followed by Syracuse, where 11.8 percent of the salt city's residents are immigrants.

Where are the immigrants coming from?  According to the Utica Mayor's office, many are from Bosnia, East Asia and Latin America.

Other upstate cities with a high percentage of immigrants include Albany, with 11.2 percent, and Rochester, with 9.1 percent.
