‘Salem’ Season 2: WGN America Renews Witchy Period Drama for 2015
We had the chance to visit the set of WGN America's first original scripted drama 'Salem,' where it was abundantly clear the network intended to support its witchy period drama through thick and thin. That rings true today as well, now that WGN has officially announced a second season order for 'Salem.'
For those unfamiliar with the new period horror piece airing on WGN America Sundays at 10:00 P.M., ‘Salem’ stars Shane West (‘Nikita‘) as native son John Alden and Janet Montgomery (‘Made in Jersey’) as Mary Sibley, and follows the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts as it explores the supernatural truth behind the town’s infamous witch trials. Its renewal will consist of another 13 episodes to air in 2015.
The series also stars ‘Arrow‘ vet Seth Gabel as town preacher Cotton Mather, fellow ‘Nikita’ alum Xander Berkley as Magistrate Hale, Ashley Madekwe as the mysterious Tituba, Tamzin Merchant as Hale’s daughter Anne, Elise Eberle as Mercy Lewis, and ‘Mob City‘ star Iddo Goldberg’ as Isaac Walton. Says WGN President and General Manager Matt Cherniss of the renewal:
At WGN America, we are committed to delivering compelling, brand-defining programming rich with fascinating characters and ‘Salem’ has done just that. Brannon Braga, Adam Simon, the talented cast and our great partners at Fox 21 have opened up an intriguing world that has captivated viewers. We look forward to bringing more great storytelling, scares and surprises to viewers as the saga unfolds.
Not altogether unexpected, though perhaps early, as 'Salem' has only aired three episodes to date, garnering impressive ratings amid its mixed reviews. We're certainly interested to see 'Salem' given a second shot, but what say you? Have you been enjoying WGN's witchy new drama? Watch the trailer below, in case you missed it!
