A total of 9 states will change their gas tax rates for 2017, and one of them will be New York.  Seven of those states will see an overnight increase, and two will actually see a slight drop.  What happens here in the Empire State?

Here in New York, drivers will pay nearly a penny a gallon less in taxes for next year.  This, according to MarketWatch.com, is due to an automatic adjustment.   Virginia is the other state with a very slip drop in the price.

If you lived in neighboring Pennsylvania however, you'd probably want to fill your tank on New Year's Eve.  The state with the nation's highest gas tax rate will increase it again by nearly 8 cents a gallon.  Michigan will see a jump of almost as much, while 5 other states will see only a slight increase.

The website also reports that on New Year's Day 2017, Americans will pay the second-cheapest prices since 2009.
