There's nothing more exciting than Girl Scout Cookie season. Samoas? Delicious. Tagalongs? Incredible after being stuck in the freezer. And Thin Mints? Eating a sleeve of those will definitely not help you get thin. 😂

The Girl Scouts announced a new cookie they were adding to the lineup. Toast-Yay! is a "delicious, crunchy French Toast-inspired cookie with one side dipped in icing."

Unfortunately, the new flavor isn't in the lineup of cookies for sale in the Mohawk Valley and other regions of New York. The reason? Where the cookies are baked.

"We have a different baker," said Jaime Alvarez, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications with Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways. "There are 2 nationwide, ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers. The new cookie is ABC. We use LBB. Girl Scouts USA puts out a national press release whenever there is a new flavor – some people are not aware that there are 2 bakers used nationwide."

In fact, each baker uses different names for the cookies.

ABC says Caramel deLites, LBB calls them Samoas.

ABC says Peanut Butter Patties, LBB calls them Tagalongs.

ABC says Peanut Butter Sandwich, LBB calls them Do-si-Dos.

Despite the new flavor not being available locally, the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways are excited about what the upcoming cookie season has to offer. Last year, they introduced a new kind of cookie called Lemon-Ups.

"We are excited that Lemon-Ups are returning for a second year after a successful launch last season, along with other long-time favorites like Thin Mints and Tagalongs, etc"

The sale of the cookies teaches the girls how to think like entrepreneurs as they run their own small businesses and learn skills like goal-setting, people skills, and decision making. The Lemon-Ups are baked with messages inspired by Girl Scout entrepreneurs.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, many cookie consumers have been curious about how sales would be conducted for the future. Alvarez says the girls will continue to use their Digital Cookie sites for online sales, and information about booth sales is to be determined.

"While we’re not 100% sure yet what community booth sales may look like in February-March due to the pandemic, we will remain nimble and look forward to connecting with the public to help get cookies in their hands and support our girls, as funds raised through the cookie program are used by the troops for a variety of things like programming, badge work, community service, camp, travel, etc."

Cookie season begins in December and runs through March of 2021.
