12 Year Old Boy From Floyd Makes Amazing K’nex Thrill Rides
This past Saturday afternoon, I spent a couple of fun hours broadcasting live from the Boonville Oneida County Fair. While enjoying some lemonade and a huge funnel cake, I came across a really cool exhibit made by a 12 year old boy from Floyd. His exhibit featured an amazing array of K'nex thrill rides.
Since part of the fun at the Fair is riding on all the rides, I thought it was cool to see this large display of thrill rides. These K'nex thrill rides were made by 12 year old Dylan Grems from Floyd, NY. Are you familiar with K'nex? Dylan told me they're American made and he's been making these thrill rides since he was 5 years old.
Some he makes from kits and some he makes on his own. The coolest one I saw was this huge ferris wheel. It was a gift he'd received on his 11th birthday and it took him less than nine days to make. By the way, this incredible K'nex ferris wheel has 8,550 pieces. Talk about patience.
Each thrill ride is named and is battery operated. Dylan's personal favorite is the ferris wheel. He told me he has 31 K'nex thrill rides and he's working on more. Where does he keep such a huge collection? Down in the basement at home. Would he ever consider selling any of them? Not a chance. Dylan says they're too precious to him to sell. Does he see himself making K'nex thrill rides for many more years? Definitely!
How did he begin at such a young age making these rides? He love fast amusement rides and that's where it all began. His favorite ride at the Boonville Oneida County Fair? The Twin Flip. When I talked to him, he'd already been on it a couple of times that day. I'll pass on that ride, thank you very much. These picture don't quite do his exhibit justice. Hopefully he'll be at the Fair again next year and you can see them for yourself.
