Black Ice Warning for Southern Herkimer County for February 19, 2014

The National Weather Service is issuing a black ice warning for southern Herkimer county today.

The following is freezing fog and black ice statement issued by the NWS’ Albany office at 5:05am:

COMBINATION OF MELTED SNOW FROM EARLIER TUESDAY AND AREAS OF FOG WILL FREEZE ON UNTREATED SIDEWALKS AND ROADS THROUGH THIS WEDNESDAY MORNING… FORMING AREAS OF BLACK ICE. EXTRA CAUTION IS ADVISED WHILE WALKING AND DRIVING ACROSS THE REGION EARLY THIS MORNING. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO RISE AT OR ABOVE FREEZING AROUND NOON.”

Road conditions are slippery at best.  All using the roads are advised to use extreme caution and allow extra time for travel.
