Recently a series of photos about unkempt conditions at Roscoe Conkling Park in Utica, especially un-mowed grass around the Parkway Eagle monument, led me to take the drive up the hill overlooking the city to see for myself how the park was looking following Memorial Day 2014.

Who was Roscoe Conkling Anyway?

Roscoe Conkling was a United States Senator during the late 1800s, serving from 1867-1881. He was born in Albany but rose to prominence while working as a lawyer in Utica.
