The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for all of the Lite 98.7 listening area until 9PM Thursday evening.

A watch means conditions are favorable for tornado development.  Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties are included in the watch area.

Strong thunderstorms have been expected to develop in Upstate New York today.  The National Weather Service indicates:

THERE IS A THREAT FOR SIGNIFICANT SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LATER THISAFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE MAIN HAZARDS WILL BE DAMAGING WINDGUSTS...LARGE HAIL AND EVEN ISOLATED TORNADOES. THE AREA WITH THEGREATEST THREAT APPEARS TO BE JUST SOUTH OF THE CAPITALREGION...ALTHOUGH THE ENTIRE REGION OF EAST CENTRAL NEW YORK ANDWESTERN NEW ENGLAND HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR VIOLENT SEVERETHUNDERSTORMS. THE TIME FRAME FOR WHEN THE THREAT WILL BE GREATESTWILL BE FROM AROUND 3 PM THROUGH MIDNIGHT.
