There are lots of outlet malls within a short drive of Central New York, and this is the best time of the year to hit them for back to school sales. So where are they?

Head a little farther west (just a little more than 3 hours from Utica) to Niagara Falls to check out this shopping mecca. Over 200 stores here - Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Forever 21, Nike Factory and Marshalls are some of the biggies here. And of course, it's just minutes from the Falls.

This is a downstate staple. About 3 hours from Utica, and just a little less than an hour and a half from New York City, this Outlet mall boasts Tory Burch, Nike, Celine, Bottega Veneta, Michael Kors, Burberry, Coach, The North Face and more. Plus great dining options. It's easily accessible to the Thruway Exit 16.

There are several different outlet malls along US 9, just off the Adirondack Northway. Adirondack Factory Outlet, French Market Commons, and The Outlets at Lake George offer hundreds of stores to choose from. It's a little less than 2 hours from Utica and always a beautiful drive to a shopping paradise.

Just across the New York border into Massachusetts, the beautiful Berkshires offer another nearby option. It's designed to look just like a typical New England village, which makes sense since IT IS in New England. This location only has about 90 stores, but they certainly do have a bunch of great outlets, including Lindt Chocolate Outlet. Lot's of neat stuff to explore in the surrounding area too.

Remember to keep your car in top shape, especially since we're approaching the winter driving season. Reaching some of these destinations can be a little tricky during a good storm. Happy shopping!
