Utica's Union Station is rightly celebrated as one of America's great train stations. The same would never be said about Buffalo's Exchange Street station.

But that may be changing if developers are able to complete a new underground Amtrak station at the city's Canalside, a bustling entertainment district at the mouth of the Buffalo River. A station at Canalside would make it nearly adjacent to the new HarborCenter, and the MetroRail.

The current Exchange street station is described by the Buffalo News as a

small brick train station under an elevated highway has been downtown Buffalo’s welcome mat to Amtrak riders for decades...[that] "leads you to believe nothing is happening around you."

Any actual construction is years away as the idea is just that at this stage.
