I called the cable company to order TV/internet service for my new apartment, and had some "sticker shock."   For some reason, I thought that the monthly bill for those utilities would be in the neighborhood of $50.00.  Dream on.

If you want only the basic internet and local TV channels, you'll pay close to 50 dollars each month.   But for the cable networks like CNN, Fox News, plus basic internet, you're looking at $80.00 a month.   Add ESPN, and you're talking about over $90.00 each month.   Want HBO?  Expect a bill that's well over $100.

Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous?  Since the cable guy isn't available to do the hookup until a week for Saturday, I decided to go to Wal-Mart and spend $10.00 on rabbit ears.  Now I am viewing the local channels for free, as it should be.

I'm now considering cancelling the cable order.  The lounge in my building has free internet and there is a TV with all the cable channels.  I'd just be at the mercy of what other residents in the lounge at the time are watching.  Kind of a preview of my future in the assisted living facility.
