What happens when multiple Utican's play the piano at once? The answer may surprise you, because the end result is magical.

The "Hands Utica" event took place over the summer at the Oneida County Public Market. What is "Hands Utica?" According to the Observer Dispatch the concept is simple:

A piano is brought into a city and all are welcomed to come learn and play a part of an original song. Then, a videographer captures participants' hands playing the music to create a powerful video of many hands playing one song.

The Hands Movement initially started in Boston in 2014.  One of the Movement's pioneer's Alyssa O'Toole is a Utica native who loves her city.  She's passionate about promoting community spirit so she decided to bring the experience to her hometown for everybody to enjoy.

Alyssa also served at the piano instructor to all who participated in the event. Many of the participants were novices. In fact, she said there were aspiring pianists as young as two years old who played at part in the project.

Thanks to Made in Utica and all of our Central New York neighbors who helped to put this video together. Enjoy!
