Darien Lake Announces New Ride and New Name for 2019

2019 is going to be an exciting year for the Darien Lake Theme Park. They've announced a new name, and a new ride that will be the tallest in the state.

First of all, let's get to the new name - Which isn't that big of a change (so it will be quick before we starting talking about a new thrilling ride you'll want to check out). Alright, so back at the end of May it was announced that Six Flags was buying Darien Lake back. Well, the deal is done, it's official, Darien Lake is now owned by Six Flags. But if you've been in the park anytime recently, you'll notice not much has changed... Yet.

Anyway, according to WKBW Buffalo, the park will start going by "Six Flags Darien Lake" at the start of the 2019 season. Seems fitting enough, right?

Alright, on to the good stuff. Let's talk about the new ride coming to the theme park...

This new attraction is going to be taller than the Ride of Steel which holds the record for being the tallest ride in New York as of now. Ride of Steel (which happens to be at Darien Lake too), stands at 208-feet, but will be beat out by around 50 feet. When you're THAT high up, it does make a big difference.

So what's this new, crazy-high ride?? Well, it's going to be called the "Six Flags Sky Screamer" and it's just like riding the "Swing Carousel" or the "Yo-Yo" or other versions of that leg-dangling, swing-looking ride you'll find at the carnival... Just on a maximum level. According to WKBW Buffalo,

The Six Flags SkyScreamer will take 32 riders at a time up 24 stories in the air. The ride spins them around at speeds up to 35 miles per hour.

So it will obviously beat out the Ride of Steel for height, but not for speed. The Ride of Steel reaches speeds up to 75 miles-per-hour. But if you like high-thrills and heights (or like being scared that high in the air), you'll definitely want to check out this ride.

This is what you can 'kind-of' expect on the ride... Below is a video of the Sky Screamer from Six Flags New England in Massachusetts. Darien Lake's ride will go the same speed, but is almost half as tall. The Sky Screamer at Six Flags New England stands over 400 feet in the air! But... you get the idea:

In the meantime, you can still make your way to Darien Lake. The theme park is open everyday until Labor Day, then they are open on the weekends until "Fright Fest" starts. Fright Fest is their month-long Halloween celebration that runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting on September 28th.
