Final Two Defendants Sentenced In Word Of Life Case

After nearly 16 months, the Word of Life Church case has come to an end.

The final two defendants in the case -- Bruce and Deborah Leonard -- were sentenced today in Oneida County Court.

Deborah Leonard was sentenced to a total of five years in prison for her role in the death of her son Lucas Leonard and the beating of Christoper Leonard during a church counseling session in October of 2015.

The boys' father, Bruce Leonard, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, which is less than the originally agreed upon sentence of 16 years.

Judge Michael Dwyer reduced Leonard's sentence after several people, including his daughter, spoke on his behalf in court.

Deborah Leonard tearfully apologized to everyone affected by the tragedy.

Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara say it's the most complex case he's even worked on in his 24 years as a prosecutor.

Seven other defendants have been sentenced to prison time in the case.
