Governor Cuomo Looks to Ban Packing Peanuts and Takeout Foam
Like so many styrofoam popcorn pieces in a packing box, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is releasing items from his upcoming State of the State speech bit-by-bit.
One of those latest pieces actually does concern foam packing materials as well as styrofoam takeaway boxes.
The Democrat is proposing a ban on single-use food and beverage containers made from poystyrene foam in an effort to reduce non-biodegradable waste in New York.
If approved, the ban would go into effect January 1, 2022.
Along with the recently passed ban on single-use plastic shopping bags, environmental groups have been pushing to do away will all sorts of items that end up in landfills, rivers, landscapes and oceans.
Maine and Vermont are among states passing similar bans on foam cups, packing peanuts and food containers this year.
