New York state chefs are currently doing battle.

The voting is coming down to the wire in the Best Simple Recipe contest, sponsored by Boscov's department store (with a location in Sangertown Square Mall), and a Central New York chef is, well, in the mix.

Jack Pflanz of Whitesboro is one of nine contestants vying to be a finalist. Your vote could make a difference if cast prior to the 5 p.m. deadline, Tuesday, August 29. The final cook-off will take place September 16th at the Boscov's in Albany.

Grand prize is an Oneida deluxe 14-piece stainless steel knife set with block.

Pflanz's recipe submission is his signature "Make-Ahead Breakfast Burrito," which meets the contest qualifications for recipes that are "appealing for the whole family and able to be made with no more than 10 ingredients and in 20 minutes or less."

And, by the way, Pflanz's daughter Morgan has already qualified in the youth division with her "Waffle-Toasted Apricot Turkey Sandwich." She and her dad have a business together, offering online and live shows, cooking classes and catering, called Jack & Mo Cooking Show.
