Help A CNY Police Sergeant Who Urgently Needs Bone Marrow Donor
A Central New York Police Sergeant desperately needs a bone marrow transplant to help in his fight against lymphoma - and you can help.
Sgt. Ken Hatter is an officer with the Manlius Police Department. Ken has been quietly fighting lymphoma for several years and now things have taken a more serious turn.
His family says "In 2007 Ken was diagnosed with a slow-growing follicular Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Over the past eleven years, with close monitoring and intermittent chemotherapy, it has been kept under control. Unfortunately, roughly two years ago it has turned more aggressive requiring more aggressive treatment. Most recently, Ken received immunotherapy in Rochester at Strong Memorial Hospital. To our devastation, the immunotherapy was unsuccessful requiring Ken to endure even more aggressive chemo requiring hospitalization, and ultimately a bone marrow transplant."
The family is faced with two challenges: trying to find a matching donor for Ken - and trying to keep his family financially afloat as he fights his disease.
There is a GoFundMe page where you can choose to donate to help his family, but what the family really needs - and wishes for - is a donor to help save Ken's life.
His family has organized a bone marrow registration drive to help in the search. If you can't get to Fayetteville - you can still determine if you're a match for Ken by following the link on the Facebook page set up to report his progress and find a match: Consider Cousin Ken. There you can order a FREE kit that will determine whether you're a match.
