Five guys. One ATV. A bad patch of ice on Oneida Lake. And a whole lot of “that escalated quickly.”

A viral video from Triple T Towing and Underwater Recovery shows the moment things went sideways.

Falling Like Dominoes

An ATV goes through the ice. One guy falls in while cutting a hole. Then, like dominoes, the others rush in to help — because that’s what you do, right? Someone goes through, you don’t stand there. You move.

“I blame myself for the mishap on this," owner Derek Field shared on social media. "I should have advised everyone that if I fall, not to try to help me. It was a natural reaction when someone falls in to go and help."

It wasn’t recklessness. It was instinct.

When one person goes through, the area around that hole is already compromised. Running toward it can turn one emergency into five in seconds — which is exactly what happened.

Cold, Wet, But Safe

Thankfully, everyone made it out. Cold. Wet. But safe.

The ATV didn’t stay at the bottom — Triple T stepped in and recovered it.

Let this be your spring reminder:

• Ice conditions change by the hour this time of year.
• Thickness isn’t consistent across a lake.
• If someone falls in, reach or throw — don’t rush onto weak ice.
• And once the thaw starts, it might just be time to call it a season.

We’re all itching for warmer temps. The potholes are popping, the snowbanks are shrinking, and we’re ready to trade ice for open water. But until it’s fully thawed, respect it.

This one ended the best way possible — everyone home safe. That’s the part that matters most.
