Residents of New York are very proud to live in the Empire State, but just because you've lived in one state for a long period of time, doesn't mean you know everything about it. We've compiled a list of 27 state symbols - from the state animal, to the state snack, to the state song - with which you and your fellow New Yorkers can test your state knowledge.
It's time to separate the true New Yorkers from the fake ones, folks.

State Symbols USA has put together lists of state symbols for each of the 50 states in the union, and listed 27 total categories for New York. Some of these are physical things, like the state animal or state tree, while others are ideas and sayings, like the state song and state motto.
We took all of the symbols and created a list from 1-27, which you can see by scrolling below.
New York is a very unique state by comparison, which is the explanation for why some of the symbols are very strange. As you'll see below, The City That Never Sleeps is represented by things like the state slogan, while the Capital Region and Upstate New York is represented by things like the state animal, and the state muffin.
Long Island, meanwhile, is represented by both of the state fishes.
