New York State Has Some of the Best Rest Stops In The Country

With summer here it's likely that a lot of folks are heading out on the road for a road trip. Along the way you'll need to make stops for gas, snacks, and of course to use the bathroom. I am here to tell you that after experiencing rest stops all across the United States, New York has some of the best in the renovated Applegreen stops on the Thruway.

Having now driven across the country a few times I have seen my fair share of service stations and rest stops. I will always have a soft spot for places like Buc-ee's and Love's but when it comes to a tried and true rest stop I think that theses Applegreen stops in New York are some of the best in the entire country.

The food options are these rest stops are generally pretty decent. You can find something for everyone at these spots. Some of them might have a Dunkin and others a Starbucks. You can find everything from Popeye's to Panda Express at these and some of them even have Shake Shacks.

I will address the elephant in the room and talk about Chick-fil-A being in many of these stops and how stupid it is that they have eliminated a place for travelers to eat on Sundays. However the locations with Chick-fil-A inside also seem to have multiple other options for people. Will it be a bit busier? Yes, but there's always another rest stop a few miles up the way if you don't want to wait. I also think that the convenience stores inside have decent prices and additional food that are pretty good.

Let's talk about the bathrooms. These are super clean all the time. Since they have done these renovations to the Thruway rest stops these things are spotless. If you've done any kind of traveling a clean bathroom is always appreciated and these have been well maintained. Let's hope that they keep up on this.

Applegreen has stops all across the Northeast and Midwest, but New York is the state I've seen them in so far. I'll judge the others when i get to them eventually.

Something I think they could work on - better places to walk your dog. I think these spots need to be away from traffic and a lot bigger than the fenced in spaces that they currently offer.

Do we have a Buc-ee's? No, at least not yet. However these stops really make travel up, down, and sideways really bearable in New York State.
