Naomi Watts has been cast in a crucial role in the 'Divergent' film series, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The Australian native will be playing the character of Evelyn, the leader of the Factionless in the stories.

Watts will appear in the 'Divergent' sequels 'Insurgent,' 'Allegiant - Part 1' and 'Allegiant - Part 2.' Shooting for 'Insurgent' is currently underway in Atlanta and is being prepped for a March 20, 2015 release.

She joins cast members Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet and Miles Teller, all of whom are reprising their roles from the first 'Divergent' film.

Robert Schwentke ('RIPD,' 'RED') is directing off a script by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman.

The 'Divergent' movies are based on the young adult series by Veronica Roth and are set in a future dystopian society. The series tells the story of a young female heroine named Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior (Woodley) and her plans to rebel against a cruel and authoritative government who separates society into different factions starting at a young age.
