Power was restored for most households within thirty minutes but an equipment malfunction caused a power outage that affected approximately 8,400 customers in Oneida and Herkimer counties .

National Grid representative Virginia Limmiatis says that the company was able to quickly restore power following an equipment malfunction that occurred just after 9:30am at the Schuyler substation.

Winds gusting to sixty miles per hour have the Mohawk Valley under a wind watch for October 31, 2013 through November 1, 2013.  Limmiatis cautions that with those high winds comes the increased possibility of downed power lines.  She is reminding residents that every downed line should be regarding as a live line, and no one should go near them. Instead she is asking the public to call National Grid immediately to reports any lines that have come down or look as though they are about to become disengaged.

To report a power outage call National Grid at: (800) 867.5222.

To report a gas emergency call: (800) 892.2345.
