Zach Cooper is upset about moving away from the big city because his mom gets a new job in a small town. He immediately falls in love with his cute neighbor Hanna but feels her father is very strange. Here is why according to the trailer:

he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books.

As you see Zach let's all the monsters escape by unlocking a book. The monsters frighten the town and it's up to Zach, Hanna and Stein to put them back where they belong. Locked back up.
