Folks have been able to find a taste of Utica in North Carolina, but the bakery responsible for this trend seems to have hit a snag. We first learned about the Utica Bakery in December 2017 and business apparently has been booming. These CNY ex-pats have been overwhelmed by the response from Apex, NY residents as well as tourists from all over the country.

Recently they were told that Town officials had received complaints from neighbors of the bakery. They have taken to Facebook with a survey:

Without getting into the details of the matter, at least for now, we're asking neighbors that reside in homes or subdivisions surrounding Utica Bakery's location to please to complete the survey which addresses whether or not the existence of the bakery has impacted the residential character of the neighborhood in a negative way. Their Facebook page describes the situation further:

For the record...Utica Bakery is located at our home and is not a commercial facility. Utica Bakery operates as a home occupation that sells baked goods, permitted by The Town of Apex Planning and Zoning Department to do so with certain restrictions.
ON PREMISE SALES ARE NOT ALLOWED, however, customers ARE ALLOWED TO PLACE ORDERS ON PREMISE but must do so BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. (Utica Bakery via Facebook)

They are currently working with the town to resolve building code issues as well, but hopefully a solution can be reached.
