Winter Fun At The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival & Lake Placid – New To Naomi [PHOTOS]
This weekend I headed north for some amazing sight-seeing and winter adventures. Saranac Lake had their Winter Carnival, Lake Placid had the Empire Games - so much going on for one weekend.
First off, I was just exciting during the drive. Being from the flat-lands of Michigan, the hills and mountains were breath-taking.
Plus, I passed this awesome place. I can't wait to check out the Enchanted Forest Water Safari in the summer. I'll go down some water slides!
The first stop on Friday was the Winter Carnival in Saranac Lake. They had this giant ice castle, and these amazing ice sculptures around the castle.
Oh, and this cool ice bus.
Next, I headed out to the Blue Line Brewery to have lunch, and sample some beers. It was the perfect way to warm up, after sitting on ice chairs inside the ice castle.
Saturday I headed into Lake Placid - what an amazing town! Seriously, the streets were buzzing with people (the Empire Games were this weekend), and with the snow falling all day, it was just perfect.
I found some kids that had started a game of hockey out on the ice. And there were people skating around, playing in the snow...
I stopped in the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery to warm up and have a beer. It was a Imperial Cherry Belgian UBU - yeah, don't drink those too fast, they're pretty strong.
After lunch, it was off to Whiteface Mountain. Wow. Now that's a mountain!
I wanted to take my shot at skiing, but as I headed up to the lodge, I figured I better not. I need a beginner hill, so I don't die. Maybe next weekend.
I watched from the lodge as others were skiing and snowboarding. I'm not going to lie, it did look like a lot of fun. I stayed there for a little bit, had some delicious nachos, and watched a live band that was performing at the lodge.
Saturday night I went back into Saranac Lake, to check out the night life. I ended spending most of my night here. Good people, good music, all in all just good fun.
I loved spending my weekend up north. Between seeing mountains for the first time, and enjoying the Winter Carnival, I have to say it was a pretty fun weekend.
The Saranac Winter Carnival's Ice Castle was probably one of my favorite parts. Below are some more pictures of the ice sculptures and the castle.
I can't see what adventures and fun next weekend has in store, as I check out another area as part of 'New to Naomi.'
