Today, October 17, 2015, a shooting took place just outside of Wal-Mart in the parking lot in the township of Wilkes-Barre.

Wal-Mart in Wilkes-Barre lifted the lockdown after more than an hour after a shooting ensued just outside in their parking lot.

It took seven different agencies to take down a man that was firing shots from his rifle around 12:30 p.m. today. Nobody at the plaza was hit by the shooter.

“Shots were fired in the direction of law enforcement and that’s when they proceeded to fire and [the shooter] was struck,” said Stefanie Salavantis, the Luzerne County District Attorney.

The shooter, whose name has not been released at this time, is at a nearby hospital undergoing surgery. Investigators did say that the man was not from Luzerne County.

“These people aren’t from the area and it’s under investigation what brought them here,” said Capt. Jay Degnan. “Any public mall, any public place like that is a melting pot. All kinds of things can happen here.”

At this time, detectives are now trying to figure out what the motive was behind this gunfire. Police are attempting to look for clues in the alleged shooter’s car which was parked at the scene.

At this point, no charges have been filed as of yet.
