Some Brookstone Stores Are Closing, Others Remaining Open
Brookstone is famous for really cool gifts that nobody really buys, like this personal, do-it-yourself shiatsu neck massager for sale on eBay. Which may explain why Brookstone is going out of business--sort of.
The company announced it's closing all 102 of its mall locations across the United States, including a Central New York store at Destiny USA in Syracuse. Another 35 locations inside airports will stay open for now. Proving people will still make foolish, impulsive or desperation purchases while waiting for a plane.
Brookstone changed hands in 2014, as Chinese conglomerate Sanpower bought the franchise for $173 million in a bankruptcy auction. Aside from airport stores, the Brookstone website will also remain open for business.
