Following a record attendance of 1.1 million visitors in 2016, the New York State Fair is adding a 13th day this year.  Fair officials say with more attractions coming this summer, they will open on a Wednesday, instead of Thursday, according to newyorkupstate.com.

The 2017 fair will open on August 23rd, and run through Labor Day, September 4th.  On Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo visited the fairgrounds and announced plans for a $15 million gondola, along with another $55 million in upgrades to the complex.

In 1990, the length of the annual fair was expanded from 10 to 12 days.  It remained at 12 days through last year.
