Surviving The Holidays With In-Laws
Brace yourselves the in-laws are coming to town. How are you going to relax? How are you going to make sure things flow fine?
Doris Roberts of course was the hardest in-law to deal with on the tv show Everybody Loves Raymond. Her character loved to Give Deb a hard time.
Here are some things to focus on in order to ease the tension of the holidays with these foul creatures we call in-laws:
- Less is More- Set up the number of days you think you can all tolerate being under the same roof and stick to it. Don't go over that limit or you'll explode.
- Set House Rules- Be assertive. If something is going on that you really are uncomfortable with, then remain firm in your rules.
- Choose Your Battles- Decide what matters. You can't say no to everything they want to do, so you have to let some things go and bite your tongue. It's only a week or so.
- Address Problems Before You Go- Work out disagreements ahead of time. If trouble is brewing make sure to fix it out before they come to avoid a blow-up over the holiday. No one ever likes that!
