We double-dare you not to love this – one of Nickelodeon’s greatest game shows is officially oozing back onto TV. The network confirms new episodes of ‘80s-‘90s classic Double Dare will arrive as early as this summer.
A surprising shake-up at Nickelodeon may not be so amicable as reported. The kids’ network has dropped showrunner Dan Schneider – creator of iCarly, Kenan & Kel and more – after “multiple complaints of abusive behavior” and an apparent argument during a network meeting.
Damn near everything popular between 1985 and 1999 has been rebooted, reimagined, reworked, or remade in the studios’ relentless efforts to wring every last drop of earning potential from existing creative properties. Some efforts have been more successful than others, but either way, Nickelodeon has moved to throw their own hat into the ring.
Growing up I had two goals to accomplish in life: sit on the orange couch with Kenan and Kel, and get slimmed on Family Double Dare. At age 25, I feel like a total failure that none of those goals have been accomplished. Where did I go wrong? I would have even settled for a weekend at Space Camp as a prize from the show Arcade. It looks like millienials may get another shot at these big dreams.
